What is COMPIZ?(7 posts) (5 voices)
Can I put it on any PC?
No. Needs powerful cpu, lots of ram, correct video driver with good graphics chip. If a pentium 3 with 256mb of ram. Not happening.
Can somebody give an answer to it?
Can I install it to all Puppy Linux versions?
Maybe on newer Puplets and Puppy releases. Not on older versions like 3.01.
Also, from the Compiz web site, they recommend that if you use Compiz to back up your personal data and applications just in case.
So I would say that Compiz is not ready for everyday use. I have had some problems. But they could be attributed to some not solved compatibility with the Nvidia drivers.
Try many Compiz effects with Beryl - still needs video acceleration, but not so many resources as Compiz, AFAIK
Let's be clear, Beryl=Compiz!!! (just older, says so on the compiz main page).
Compiz is in pretty good shape on Slacko.. runs fine one my old IBM r51 Thinkpad with radeon mobility graphics using stock open source radeon driver with mesa and even better on my severely hamstrung eee-pc-701SD with intel graphics and mesa, .. so.. why not try your luck? (of course at own risk ;) .)
Ah, thanks Mick, my bad...been trying out Lobster's time machine and forgot to reset the controls ...lol
