"sounds like a big project which would require a lot of additional on going commitment"
yes and no. documentation is always being worked on, and not everything that is included needs to be documented (the right balance of what to document would need to be found, but not immediately.)
basically the way it could be put together is with urls and selection information, and the whole thing would count on some things being static (or an entire wiki page being used instead of a paragraph.) the rest of the demo could be pretty automatic.
"darkcity at the wiki would be someone to speak to"
something i would consider, definitely if it were going to be based on a lot of his work.
"as would be raffy"
how often does raffy actually interact with people here? i dont mean to sound demanding, just curious. he was kind enough to activate my account, so im grateful.
"perhaps put forward a small working example and go forward from there."
this is how i normally begin a project like that, if i decide to take it up. though im still in the "mention it" stage. the bigger the project, the more interest it requires (mine, or?)
an example is the pup/distro i put together to demonstrate a concept. i spent two hours on the initial version. then a week, then a month. its about all ive worked on in my spare time this week! its become useful and/or a fun challenge. but my own interest is enough motivation.
"have you tried the various search functions and would what you are proposing be more useful given the amount of time / effort that is required"
not only is this a fair point, its a point im still weighing myself.
if i were to do more than talk, id put some code together that people could run and get a feel for. so far the only people running code of mine that i know of are ally and asd-- im happy enough with that.
i post for various reasons:
* to get philosophy/input on ideas
* to get practical suggestions, if any
* to excite and amuse (and inspire?)
* to make myself more interested in doing a task
in this case, there is yet another motivation too:
* to find out who responds
i know for a fact there are other people that post here than just us. i am curious when they come out to post, but i dont mind if it takes patience.
thanks very much.
