Since john's site is down I thought i'd put an early alpha up for some initial testing. My Origonal intention was to provide the first alpha release at ALPHA 10, but with a few bored people out there, well..........

It's not small though as with a complete set of qt 4.7.4 inbuilt it's already some 204Meg, but it will start to shrink soon as I replace 'some bits' with qt equivalents.

The hash for the warz-5.22.08.iso is e426808c58eb55a2d134edf08aea385c.

Remember it is an alpha

d'loaded twice, got, twice ee7122031a7167be589890d8afe18d77 warz-5.22.08.iso

opened iso and only boot.cat was there, despite size being pretty close (203M)

sorry folks, it's updated, it seems gftp and the website are having problems so i'm rebuilding the latest filezilla which I know works!

Problems so far with 08 are:
-missing libphonon and gstreamer libs - will go in 09
-a couple of application icons - will go in 09

09's listed work (as well as bugfixes) is:
09 will also have the basics of qlwm, a very quick and small qt desktop (first of two qt desktops to be added. jwm2 will stay forever as I consider it puppy's standard desktop.;
09 will loose firefox as the latest qtweb app build seems to be stable and working well, that should shrink it by a decent bit;
09 will have listed applications in the menu system for a number of internally available apps (I may need someone to build gtk front ends for others at some stage, if anyone wants to tentively put their hand up for early next year);
09 will have Qt Creator added for those who wish to try building their own qt apps (if you know at least html you can build) Qt Creator also has the ability to cross-platform, so what is built could potentially be used by barry's new arm system;
and lastly
09 will have a menu change for jwm to split development applications in it's own menu group (if I can remember how I did it last time). Reason is, the development group that is currently in Utilities is going to explode as it currently contains Development, Building, Debugger, IDE, Profiling, Translation and GUIDesigner in the one block as well as all the utilities and I have qt4 'stuff' for all of them.

For now, at this stage, I just need some basic testing on different boxes and laptops.

hopefully it's right this time after six goes at uploading, as size now matches exactly.

Did a rebuild while time was going and fixed a couple of problems found, the two libs are still missing as I didn't have source, have included qlwm, but nothing to work with it yet.

... downloading for hash test now, yes it matches at last, whims to isp and website supplier asking why.

Finally got a good download...... posting from warz-5.22.08 live pfix=ram on my old Athlon xp box.
Sound and internet working on initial boot....incorrect screen resolution but a quick run through Xorgwizard got my desired 1440x900.

Screen resolution will always be a problem I think with the autoset, but it seems to work most times so for now i'll leave it.

You'll have noticed a lot of apps gone, these have qt replacements that will appear over the next few alphas (10-12), and it already has mahjongg added, my favorite game :-)} and it's a good video structural workout. Use wary5 pets if you want to add anything.

I've also a qtchess to add when I sort out a bug that's causing it to crash and corrupt itself in puppy, it's suppose to also allow two to play across the net so think it will be a good addition for the chessaholics.

Quick test on two computers. Seems to work fine. Wired network and sound work. No problems with screen resolution.

1. IBM Netvista, PIII 650 Mhz, 128Mb RAM, integrated graphics and audio
2. AMD Sempron, 1500 MHz (9 x 167) 2200+, 512 Mb RAM, Motherboard: Asus A7V880, Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (128 MB), Audio: VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller

I tried a frugal install of Qt on my PIV computer with an Intel graphics card. All I could get was an 800x600 resolution, not sharp enough for my needs. I have used many Puppies with a better resolution. Are more drivers forthcoming in later versions?

I am not sure of if I have tested QT yet.
But Dave you mean that usually on all puppies
installed the way you did now then them let
you chose higher resolution and this one refused?

I would go into /etc/x11/ and look in xorg.conf
and if it has a lot of text in the "new section"
don't remember name but it is marked out as new.
Then I would make a back up of that text and then
# out all of it so it is invisible or back up the whole
file and then do personal settings if QT has that program
Then in personal settings one get higher resolutions to chose
while if one only do xorgwizard then one get the lower?

But i can be wrong but that is my experience.

dave,

did you by any chance, drop out to the hash prompt and run xorgwizard too see if you could load the intel driver rather than the one it automatically choose? I did have one old box that prefered the i810 driver on install for some reason, but xorgwizard fixed that.

as qt's based from racy/wary5.2.2 I actually didn't expect any serious video problems, especially with the various intel drivers as that's how most of mine run (other than one ati) and have tested with them without problems so far.

Can you try that please and let me know the result, thanks.

and thanks saintless, I admit I did wonder with GeForce video driver as I couldn't test it myself.

When I tried to drop to the prompt I got a blank screen and had to do a hard reboot. My attempt to download other Intel drivers as the setup menu suggested was met with the message that the file did not exist. My video card, by the way, is Intel 82915G/GV/910GL, if that's any help to you.
I am writing this from racy, with which I haven't had any video problem. I also have a frugal installation of 528 (Three-Headed Dog) on the same partition.
I thank you and Nooby for your interest. Maybe I'll just wait for the Beta on this one.
