Sorry such sloppy expressed title. I am not good at it.
Puppy constantly run into this dilemma. Barry love to be root
and many of the users of Puppy also love it and maybe even
have chosen Puppy for that feature. I am one of the root lovers!
But I also can agree with the critics that it would be cool
to have a choice if one want to give Puppy away to somebody
being used to not have root access from scratch.
As is very obvious from the Fix Fido thread at Murga there is no
Puppy Dev that want to fix it. Fido and Spot is not the way that
would solve this need some Linux users have of being multi instead
of single user.
So we would have to find devs outside of Puppy that would know how
to make use of scripts or ways to get a linux going with multi user
but still being as close to Puppy that one can say it is a Puppy fork
and then let Barry Kauler decide if it needs another name or can be named
Puppy Multi User Linux whatever name that is best to use for it.
Puppy Kennel Linux even? :)
Anyway. Maybe it is my lack of knowledge that makes me naive enough
to propose something impossible. maybe it is exceptionally difficult
to do what I suggest? Pizzaisgood or similar name made one based on
an older kernel 412? and he told us it was rather difficult.
He spent months on it and his family got almost neglected so he would
not do it again if I read him as he intended. That tells me that I may
be too much of a noob and that it is way more difficult than one know
as a newbie.
Now a related thing is what did happen when sickgut suggested that he
could get help from Puppy devs to make a puppy like distro based on
Debian and the total silence? okay one dev did respond saying that
Debian is not Puppy and none of the other seems to care. So it does not
look promising at all.
So what to think about this whole thing? No need to defend that Puppy
is root. I do support that. That is what I love about Puppy.
But this thread is about how can one make a puppy or fork or puppy
that is a real multi user linux distro and still something a puppy
luvr can set up as a root only puppy if one want to. A truly compatible fork?
