Hi I installed Puppy in a Compaq Armada e500. I t worked fine initially but now it just hangs with the following on the screen."puppy18684 login:root (automatic login)" During bootup the "loading swap partition failed. I have had Ubuntu installed on this system but it just is too old. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff

It will work with Armadae, but...
Older HP/Cq often had a hidden partition with BIOS data on it. (You can reload it from their website). It was often (wrongly) claimed that this was essential. Best plan is to remove the HD, run it on a desktop box with a 2.5" adapter (make certain it's the right way up because the power lines are taken from the ribbon cable!). Run a debug script from a FAT32 FDD to clear out the entire disc, including the MBR. Whilst you're in this mode, load the Puppy version of your choice using pfix=ram. Re-install in the Armada - bingo.
My experiences suggest that neither a dd script nor an in situ clean-up are sufficiently reliable.

Are you referring to an initial boot from CD, followed by problems with a full installation?
