I'm running slacko 5.3 with chromium as my second choice browser, but I have a problem.
I can browse the chrome web store and choose to install an app but the app does not install.
There are a few useful apps I would like to have so any help would be appreciated.
BTW:
Seamonkey is my first choice browser.
I find firefox to troublesome at the moment.

I can browse the chrome web store and choose to install an app but the app does not install.
A webstore? that does not sound like addons or extensions to the web browser?
Sounds more like apps for Android? Can you give link and name to a typical app?Apps need to be done for the OS one install on. Linux have many many distros.
100dreds at least and they can be rather different.Addons or extensions to the Browser should be independent of the OS
so maybe some misunderstanding there?Posted 1 year ago # -
Hi nooby good to hear from you.
Chromium addons are to be found in what they call chrome web store. It can be viewed by opening a new tab and does refer to addons as apps.
Web store and apps seem to be the buzz words everybody wants to use at present.

oops sorry I where too lazy to look it up
by starting a browser up or doing a google.
Hehe so they want to give it that fancy name.So how do we explain that it fail then?
We either have to find someone who has solved it
and can teach us or find such info on the net maybe ?
But I am too lazy now. Wish you old the best and
happy hunting for a solution. Such a famous browser
maybe them even have their own google group for the browser?Posted 1 year ago # -
Look at the bottom task bar nooby to see if Chromium is asking permission first if you wish to install the app. I get this in sware iron browser. It is a safety feature.

irishrm rokytnji has a good suggestion. He has experience from
the Iron version of Chrome so most likely Chrome is identical
in the way Rok has tested on his version. I am too lazy to look.
I accept FF and only use that one apart from Opera which allow
me to download Linux isos that are only torrent.Posted 1 year ago # -

Thanks for your replies. No luck so far.
I'll keep looking and maybe I'll come across a solution some time.
If I find a must have addon there is always firefox to fall back on.

irishrm, Have you tried clicking on the wrench (spanner) on the right side of the toolbar and going to Tools-Extensions? That works for me using Iron. Clicking on Extensions will take you to a page that let's you browse the gallery of extensions for Chrome I think. Cheers, Lee

That also takes you to the web store.
My problem is that when I click on an extension the install window comes up but does not install.
Thanks anyway.Posted 1 year ago # -
Hi irishrm,
I seem to remember I had the same problem with Chromium 17 in Slacko.
Changed to the Chromium 16 that is also offered in Slacko's repo and the problem was gone!Anyway, Slacko and Chromium are a winning combination..sooooo fast!
Hope that helps.

Thanks Bert you solved the problem for me.
I actually installed 17 on top of 16. I'm sure that didn't help either.
So I uninstalled both 16 and 17 and re installed 16.
The web store is up and running properly no problem with installs.
There sure are a lot of apps to choose from.
I wonder does slacko and chromium 17 have a problem with web store installs?
I'd like to think we could we could upgrade to 17 and beyond in the future.

Hi Irishrm,
I think the problem is in this particular Chromium 17 pet in Slacko. On another box, running Lucid Puppy, Chromium 17 does not display the web store problem.
If you're interested, Playdayz posted a pet for Chromium 18 for Slacko on the other forum: this post
I have not tried it yet myself.EDIT: the link to download Chromium 18 is to the very slow ibiblio. This mirror server is fast.

Bert,
Thanks for the link to chromium 18. I've downloaded it but what to do next?
Would I have to un-install 16 before installing 18?I've just installed chromium 18 for lucid on lupu 5.1.1 and it turned into a bit of a mess particularly in relation to the web store with all sorts of warnings about security.
I un-installed it again.
I think its a problem with 511 rather than a problem with 18.
I don't mind messing up 511, I only keep it for that purpose.I don't mess too much with slacko so I think I'll enjoy a fully working chromium 16 for a while before having a go at 18.

Decided to update to chromium 18.
Went smoothly, no problems to reportPosted 1 year ago # -
Thanks for this irishrm.
Chromium 18 running fine here as well.
Did you see the new setting in the latest Chromiums about running background services even when Chromium is closed?
Menu>Preferences>advanced options>background applications. It is ticked by default. I don't like that, as no one explained it to me or us, users.
I unticked it!Otherwise Chromium 18 is looking good :)
Edit: big thanks to playdayz for his continuing quality compiling!!
